Struggling Spanish club Las Palmas changes coaches
Oct. 19, 2015
MADRID (AP) — Newly-promoted Spanish club Las Palmas has hired manager Quique Setien hours after announcing the firing of former coach Paco Herrera.
Herrera was let go after the Canary Islands team won one match in eight rounds to leave it second from bottom in the Spanish league.
Herrera helped Las Palmas earn promotion last season following a 13-year absence from the topflight. He is the first coach to be fired in La Liga this season.
Setien is a former Racing Santander, Atletico Madrid and Logrones midfielder. He was capped three times by Spain.
As a coach, he helped Racing earn promotion to the first division in 2001-02. He also was the national coach of Equatorial Guinea.
