The official news agency Xinhua said all eight Chinese entrants qualified for the semifinals, which will be held Sunday at the indoor swimming stadium in China's largest city.
Three Soviets, three Americans, Jorge Mondragon of Mexico and Brita Baldus of East Germany also will dive in the four individual events, men's and women's platform and springboard diving.
The finals are scheduled for Sunday evening, the last day of the four-day, 14-nation tournament, the first world diving competition ever held in China.
In Saturday's qualifying events, Xinhua said Miss Zhou thrilled the capacity crowd with a reverse to two-and-a-half somersault tuck, which earned her 69.66 points including two 9.5s, the highest awards so far in the tournament.
Li Kongzheng took the tournament's highest score for a single dive with 87.72 on a reverse three-and-a-half somersault tuck, considered the most difficult with a 3.4 FINA rating.
