Zurich asks prosecutor to charge rival player
Dec. 08, 2014
ZURICH (AP) — Swiss club Zurich has filed a criminal complaint against Aarau midfielder Sandro Wieser for his red-card tackle on Gilles Yapi last month.
Zurich says in a statement it asked the public prosecutor of Lenzburg-Aarau canton (state) to consider bringing charges of assault.
The club says it has acted to help protect the health of professional players.
Yapi suffered extensive damage to his right knee inflicted by Wieser's high challenge stamping the studs of his left boot.
It is unclear if the 32-year-old former Ivory Coast international will recover to play again.
Wieser, a 21-year-old Liechtenstein international, later apologized and was suspended for six matches by the Swiss league.
