Police Seek Shooter in Ga. Slayings
May. 16, 2003
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) _ Police searched Friday for a man who allegedly killed four people and shot two others during an argument at an apartment where people were watching an NBA playoff game.
Police have not confirmed if the argument and shootings late Thursday were related to the game. The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 110-82 and eliminated them from the postseason.
Vernetta Green, whose brother was killed, said the argument did not involve gambling. The suspect, a family friend who often stopped his other friends from arguing, ``just snapped,'' she said.
James Fitzgerald Mitchell, 32, is wanted on four counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Police said they found a gun in the apartment, but have not identified it as the murder weapon.
Killed were Marland Anthony Green, 28; Marcus Wallace, 29; Eugene Clayton, 24; and Zasia Holder, 21.
Andrae Brittain, 26, was hospitalized in critical condition Friday. The Greens' brother, 19-year-old Marcus, was treated and released.
