KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) _ Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld landed at Bagram airfield in Afghanistan, the first top official to visit the Central Asian nation since the U.S. war there began.
Rumsfeld was to meet the new interim prime minister of Afghanistan, Afghanistan's interim leader, Hamid Karzai.
His C-17 landed at Bagram airfield north of Afghanistan's capital and Rumsfeld was taken by convoy to a nearby bombed-out building for the meeting under tight security.
