NEWARK, Del. (AP) _ Pat Williams rushed for a career-high 134 yards, including a 97-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and Leo Hamlett threw for two touchdowns as Delaware beat West Chester 49-21 Saturday.
Delaware (1-0) gained 563 yards, including 425 on the ground. The Blue Hens led 35-0 en route to their sixth win in seven tries against the Division II Rams (1-1).
Williams carried the ball only eight times in his second straight 100-yard effort, the last one coming in last year's season finale. His 97-yard run was the second longest in school history and the longest since 1946.
The Hens, who have won seven straight dating back to last season, broke out to a 21-0 lead on scoring runs by Williams, Kai Hebron and Hamlett. It became 28-0 late in the half when Hamlett threw a 28-yard TD pass to Courtney Batts.
The Hens went up 35-0 with nine minutes left in the third quarter on an 8-yard run by Marvell Scott.
West Chester scored on a 2-yard run by Jim Lindsay late in the third quarter, a 4-yard pass from Kris Olsen to Brian Penecale and a 2-yard run by Aladdin Freeman with 50 seconds left.
