RAPID CITY, S.D. — A company that is considering reopening the abandoned Gilt Edge gold mine in western South Dakota could disturb areas that have been reclaimed as part of a $120 million cleanup project during the past 18 years. It's estimated that an additional $88 million worth of reclamation work is needed at the site, and Canada-based Agnico Eagle Mines says it would absorb that cost and the responsibility for the cleanup if the company finds enough recoverable gold.
