Braves' Odalis Perez Leaves Game
Jul. 22, 2001
ATLANTA (AP) _ Atlanta Braves lefty Odalis Perez was forced to leave Saturday night's game in the fifth inning after being struck on his pitching hand by a hard grounder off the bat of Montreal's Orlando Cabrera.
The Braves said Perez received a cut on his left hand between his thumb and index finger. It was not immediately known if stitches would be necessary of if he would miss his next start.
The one-hop bouncer caromed off Perez to first baseman Ken Caminiti, who tagged out Cabrera.
Perez left the field holding his hand and was replaced by Kerry Ligtenberg.
Perez, who came into the game with a 6-7 record, gave up one run, three hits, didn't walk any and struck out three in 4 1-3 innings. He left trailing 1-0 on an RBI double by Cabrera in the second inning.
