UNCC's Sean Colson Suspended
Nov. 05, 1997
CHARLOTTE (AP) _ North Carolina Charlotte guard Sean Colson, the team's leading returning scorer, has been suspended until Nov. 24 for violating team policy.
In making Tuesday's announcement, coach Melvin Watkins did not elaborate on how Colson violated the policy.
Colson, a 6-foot senior from Philadelphia, will miss UNCC's first game at Miami (Fla.) Nov. 21. The 49ers play at Appalachian State Nov. 24.
Colson did not play Tuesday in the 49ers' 104-69 exhibition victory over the Next Level Stars.
A preseason all-Conference USA selection, Colson averaged 14.1 points and 6.3 assists per game during the 1996-97 season.
Meanwhile, the career of UNCC top freshman recruit Charles Hayward is now uncertain after he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia late last week, according to the school and his physicians.
The 6-8, 220-pound recruit from Alexandria, La., is undergoing chemotherapy at a Charlotte-area hospital, according to doctors, who said they are optimistic about his chances of recovery.
