ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) _ The 14-year-old brother of a girl found stabbed to death in her family's suburban home has been jailed on suspicion of her slaying.

The teen was arrested Friday night and placed in juvenile custody pending a hearing, Escondido police Sgt. Phillip Anderson said Saturday.

Stephanie Crowe, 12, was apparently asleep when her brother entered her bedroom and stabbed her to death, police said. Her bloody body was discovered Wednesday morning.

Police had said there was no sign of forced entry into the home.

Police haven't released any details about how many times the girl was stabbed or the location of the wounds. An autopsy was completed Thursday, but those findings have not been released.

Escondido is about 30 miles northeast of San Diego.
