Bucks trade Shawn Respert for Acie Earl
Feb. 21, 1997
MILWAUKEE (AP) _ The Milwaukee Bucks traded guard Shawn Respert, a first-round pick in the 1995 draft, to the Toronto Raptors on Thursday for forward-center Acie Earl.
The 6-foot-10 Earl was a first-round pick of Boston in 1993 out of Iowa and went to Toronto in the expansion draft before the 1995-96 season.
He averaged 4.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 38 games for Toronto this season.
``Acie Earl is a big player who can come in and contribute to our team with Andrew Lang out,'' Bucks general manager Mike Dunleavy said.
Lang, hampered by tendinitis in his right leg, has had the leg placed in a cast and is expected to be out the next five weeks.
Respert, obtained by the Bucks in a draft-day trade with Portland in 1995, averaged 1.4 points in 14 games for Milwaukee this season.
He said recently that he would welcome a trade if the Bucks didn't plan to give him more playing time.
He came out of college as Michigan State's all-time leading scorer and had been expected to provide an outside shooting threat for the Bucks.
