SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield says longtime Bishop Joseph Maguire will be laid to rest next week.

Maguire died Sunday at age 95. He led the Springfield diocese from 1977 to 1992 and faced allegations following retirement that clergy sex abuse and cover-up of that abuse had happened on his watch.

The diocese said Monday that prayers will be held for Maguire this Sunday evening at the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel.

A funeral Mass will be held next Monday, Dec. 1, with burial to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery Mausoleum.

In 2012, a Williamstown man reached a $500,000 settlement with Maguire and another former bishop he said failed to stop a known pedophile priest who molested him.
