HANNOVER, Germany (AP) — Hannover winger Szabolcs Huszti will undergo surgery after tearing his left thigh muscle while scoring a penalty in the Bundesliga at the weekend.
The Hungary international drilled the ball into the net in Hannover's 5-1 win over Hamburger SV on Saturday, but immediately pulled up as his teammates ran to him to celebrate the goal. He then hobbled off the field.
Hannover says Huszti will undergo surgery on Tuesday and will be out for several weeks. Seventh-place Hannover is trying to qualify for the Europa League again after being eliminated last week by Anzhi Makhachkala.
