Undated (AP) _ Drachma, ridden by Robbie Davis, beat his entry-mate, Crown The Leader, ridden by Jean Cruguet by a nose in Monday's $85,800 Gallant Man Stakes for 3- year-olds at Saratoga.

Racing over a firm main turf course, Drachma weent 1 1/8 miles in 1:49 4-5 for his third win in seven starts this year. Crown The Leader, joined in the betting with Drachma, was 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Major Beard, ridden by Chris Antley.

The winning entry earned $51,480 for Gail P. Beitz and paid $15.60, $12 and $7.20. Major Beard paid $8.20 to show.


Carnivore, ridden by 1986 apprentice champion Allen Satcey, prevailed by a nose over Sunny Sarawak in the $14,000 Cutlass Purse at Pimlico Race Course.

Carnivore rallied along the rail through the stretch and overtook Sunny Sarawak, ridden by Kent Desormeaux, in the final stride to complete six furlongs in 1:12 2-5.

Carnivore paid $13.60, $5.80 and $3.20; Sunny Sarawak returned $5 and $3 and Decolletage paid $5.40 to show.

Dirty Delbert claimed his fourth consecutive victory with a front-running, two-length triumph in the $16,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park.

Ridden by Julie Krone, the 6-5 betting favorite defeated Sly and Bold and six other horses in the event for 3-year-olds and up.

Dirty Delbert, son of No House Call out of Country Home, covered six furlongs in 1:10 3-5 for his sixth victory in 13 starts this year.

The 3-year-old gelding, owned by Peter Shannon Jr. and trained by John H. Forbes, returned $4.40, $3 and $2.60.

Sly and Bold, ridden by Mario Verge and owned by Frank J. Viggiani, paid $6.80 and $3.40, while Ruth Melillo's Welcome News, another six lengths back with Anthony Anderson up, returned $6.60.


Nudist Colony closed with a rush on the outside to defeat 2-5 favorite Vernon Castle by three lengths in the $17,000 Germantown Purse at Arlington Park.

Joy Underthe Falls took third in the one-mile turf race.

Nudist Colony, ridden by Kerwin Clark, paid $10.60, $3.20 and $2.40 and was clocked in 1:40 2-5 over a soft course.

Vernon Castle, ridden by Pat Day and making his first start since last October, returned $3 and $2.40. Joy Underthe Falls paid $3 to show.

Hasty Pasty, ridden by Laffit Pincay, drew clear in the stretch and won by 3 1/2 lengths in the $64,200 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Del Mar.

Lost Kitty, ridden by Chris McCarron, finished second, with Torch The Track, ridden by Russell Baze, third, five lengths back, in a field of six juvenile fillies.

The even-money favorite, Sheesham, stumbled badly at the start and lost her rider, Gary Stevens.

Hasty Pasty raced seven furlongs in 1:23 and earned $37,200 for the victory. The daughter of Flying Paster is trained by John Gosden.

Sent off the 2-1 second choice, Hasty Pasty paid $6.20, $4 and $3. Lost Kitty returned $4.80 and $3 and Torch The Track paid $4.40 to show.
