HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (AP) _ Police have accused a woman of drowning her 4-year-old son in the family bathtub and trying to kill her 5-year-old son.
Christine Wilhelm, 38, pleaded innocent Tuesday to charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder. She was jailed without bail and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, police said they responded to a 911 call from Wilhelm reporting the death of a child. Officers said they found Luke Wilhelm dead in a bathtub full of water and that she had also tried to drown Peter Wilhelm.
Peter was treated in a hospital and released to his father, Kenneth Wilhelm, who was working a night shift when Luke died. Police said Kenneth Wilhelm was cooperating with the investigation.
Texas mother Andrea Yates was sentenced to life in prison in March in the drowning deaths of three of her children. All five of Yates' children were drowned in a bathtub.
