PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Pittsfield man has been sentenced to up to six years in prison for several crimes, including the theft of a 73-year-old woman's purse.

Nicholas McNeil was sentenced Monday in Berkshire Superior Court after pleading guilty to four counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, unarmed robbery on a person 60 years of age or older, larceny, receiving stolen property and illegal drug possession.

Prosecutors say the 35-year-old McNeil approached the woman last December and demanded her purse. When she resisted, McNeil pushed her to the ground and threatened to stab her before making off with the purse.

The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/1Ef416Z ) reports that McNeil also pleaded to a series of vehicle break-ins last year.

McNeil's lawyer blamed the crimes on drug addiction and said his client is remorseful.
