NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) _ A 16-year-old boy died Wednesday from injuries sustained when he jumped out of a moving school bus on an interstate.

Silverio Gonzalez, who suffered massive head trauma in the Tuesday fall on Interstate 95, died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Gonzalez was one of 24 students traveling from the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center in Canton, which treats retarded and autistic children, to a group home in Rehoboth when he apparently bolted for the bus's rear emergency exit door, witnesses told police.

Though a counselor tried to stop him, the 6-foot tall, 200-pound teen broke free, state police said.

The bus was traveling about 50 mph.

State police impounded the bus and were investigating the incident.
