NEW ORLEANS (AP) — An inmate has died at the New Orleans jail.
A sheriff's office news release says the 41-year-old man had been jailed Wednesday. The release says he was housed in the jail's medical unit and was going through detoxification for opiates.
A deputy on duty found him "in distress" Friday morning. Emergency life-saving efforts failed.
The inmate's name was being withheld while family members were notified.
