Feb. 22, 2013
BOSTON (AP) — Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Gabriel Gomez has released another campaign video, this one showing the Cohasset businessman and former Navy SEAL greeting voters and collecting signatures with his family.
Gomez has refused to speak with reporters until after a signature-gathering deadline next Wednesday. In the video, he never mentions he is a Republican and avoids policy issues.
The Boston Globe reported Thursday night (http://bo.st/11YtHFk ) Gomez was among several people who unsuccessfully lobbied Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick for the temporary appointment to the seat vacated by John Kerry. Gomez campaign aide Lenny Alcivar confirmed to the newspaper Gomez reached out to Patrick "to appoint a new face." A Patrick aide said the selection process was confidential.
State Rep. Daniel Winslow also is running for the GOP nomination and Republican former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan is weighing a run.
