TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) _ Authorities charged an HIV-positive man with assault after he allegedly squirted a syringe of his blood at another man.
If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail on the charge and could be placed into protective custody indefinitely if deemed a community risk, Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Dennis LaBelle said.
Warren John Pitzer, 32, pleaded innocent Wednesday and was ordered held on $200,000 bond. LaBelle said Pitzer allegedly had been overheard threatening to stab someone with a syringe of his blood.
According to police, Pitzer said he had been ``kind of drunk'' Sunday when he allegedly drew blood from his arm and chased two men from his house, eventually spraying one on the arm and chest. He said it was an accident.
``I have no intention of putting people at risk,'' Pitzer said in court. ``I'm not going to do anything crazy. I just want to get home to my trailer.''
