ST. LOUIS (AP) _ The St. Louis Rams worked around two turnovers to hold a 3-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the first quarter Monday night.

The Rams, who fumbled twice, have committed an NFL-leading 29 turnovers in 10 games. St. Louis has two more giveaways than the Dallas Cowboys.

St. Louis scored on a 44-yard field goal from Jeff Wilkins on their opening possession. Kurt Warner overthrew Isaac Bruce in the end zone on first down from the 26.

The first fumble, by Az-Zahir Hakim on a punt return, didn't hurt the Rams because Martin Gramatica was wide left on a 25-yard field goal.

Hakim, a wide receiver, was downgraded from probable to questionable on Saturday because of an ankle injury. Coach Mike Martz said Hakim would not return punts if he did play.

Dwight Smith recovered Hakim's fumble at the St. Louis 25 with 8:49 to play, but the Bucs stalled and Gramatica missed his fourth field goal in 18 attempts.

The Buccaneers were driving as the quarter ended after receiver Bruce coughed up the ball on a reverse, giving Tampa Bay possession at its own 45.

The Rams were trying to go 9-1 for only the second time in franchise history and the first time since 1945.

Tampa Bay, which entered having lost two of three, got off to another slow start. The Buccaneers have been outscored 27-16 in the first quarter.
