WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester police officer has been arrested on home invasion and assault charges.

The MetroWest Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1qv9CAc) that police say William M. Stout of Worcester forced his way into his ex-wife's Northboro home on June 17 and struck her companion in the face and neck.

He was charged with home invasion, breaking and entering with intent to commit a misdemeanor and assault and battery.

Police say the 44-year-old Stout was wearing his police uniform, with his gun holstered, during the alleged attack. Police also say he told the unidentified man he would kill him.

It was not known Friday if Stout is represented by a lawyer and he does not have a listed phone number.

Stout, a 16-year veteran of the police force, was released pending arraignment in Westboro District Court.
