GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Authorities have identified a suspect who was fatally struck by an unmarked police cruiser after investigators say he and five others fled the scene of an armed robbery in suburban Washington.
Montgomery County police identified the man as 37-year-old Juan Carlos Gomez.
Police said in a statement that five males have been charged following the Friday afternoon robbery.
Police say the suspects entered a check-cashing business in Wheaton, brandishing firearms. They obtained an undisclosed amount of money and then fled in a van.
Authorities say Gomez was driving the getaway vehicle when it collided with at least one other vehicle on the Beltway in Prince George's County. Gomez ran out but was fatally struck by an unmarked police car that had been pursuing the suspects.
