MIAMI (AP) _ The Florida Marlins hired Chris Chambliss, who served as hitting coach for the New York Yankees the last five years, to manage their Triple-A affiliate, the Calgary Cannons.

``We are adding a class individual and a quality baseball man with solid leadership skills and championship background,'' said Rick Williams, Florida's director of player development.

Chambliss helped the Yankees win four World Series championships in the last five seasons, then was fired after the season. Prior to joining the Yankees, Chambliss served as Joe Torre's hitting coach with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1993-95.

Chambliss, 51, played 16 years in the major leagues and hit .279 with 185 home runs and 972 RBIs in 2,175 games for the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves.
