Aug. 05, 2017
AMES, Iowa (AP) — Central Iowa officials are inviting the public to meet later this month in Ames for a "river romp" to discover the wonders of the Skunk River.
Participants will meet at the Peterson Park Water Trail Access on Templeton Road in Ames on Aug. 19 to search for fossils, artifacts, water bugs and other treasures.
Participants are instructed to wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy. Flip-flops aren't allowed on the venture. Nets and other "romping" tools will be provided. The excursion is appropriate for ages 8 and up, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.
The program is free, but registration is required by Thursday. Registration is available online at www.storycountyconservation.org or by calling 515-232-2516.
