TORONTO (AP) — Canada is sending six fighter jets to Romania as tensions increase with Russia over the Ukraine.

Canada, a NATO member, said Tuesday it is providing "NATO reassurance measures in order to promote security and stability in Eastern and Central Europe. "

Defense Minister Rob Nicholson was on hand as six CF 18 fighter aircraft left a base in Quebec on Tuesday.

It is the biggest deployment of military aircraft to Romania from another NATO member since the Ukraine crisis broke out.
