DALLAS (AP) _ Jeryl Sasser scored a career-high 21 points and Southern Methodist held Stetson to 30-percent shooting in a 76-45 rout Sunday.

The Mustangs (9-0) matched the best start in school history with the victory. They also went 9-0 in 1984-85.

SMU took a 7-6 lead on two Jay Poerner free throws early in the game and never trailed again. The Mustangs ended the first half with a 9-0 run to take a 33-17 halftime lead.

Stetson (3-5) didn't get closer than 16 points in the second half.

Garrett Davis led the Hatters with 16 points.

Bobby Dimson added 16 points and Chad Elsey had 10 for SMU.
