LEOMINSTER, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man is accused of deliberately hitting another man with his SUV and dragging him to death after an argument.
Thirty-three-year-old Matthew Padovano pleaded not guilty to murder Friday in Leominster District Court. He's held without bail.
The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/14Qp4ze) prosecutor Lisa Casella said Padovano struck 33-year-old David Szafarowicz of Auburn outside a Leominster bar Aug.3.
She said Szafarowicz was dragged for several feet under the SUV. She said Padovano left him for dead and hid the car.
Defense Attorney Nicholas Bazoukas said Padovano sees it as a tragedy and gave a full statement to authorities two days later.
Casella said the argument began between Padovano's girlfriend and people with Szafarowicz. Afterward, Casella said, Padovano drove slowly past the bar. Szafarowicz approached the car. She said Padovano then deliberately hit Szafarowicz.
