SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his girlfriend in South Carolina last year.
Spartanburg County prosecutor Barry Barnette said 39-year-old Lance Antonio Brewton of Taylors was convicted of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime on Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Brewton shot and killed 24-year-old Natalie Rae Niemitalo of Inman last Sept. 25.
Prosecutors say the woman was shot after she and Brewton argued in a car.
Niemitalo was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center where she died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators say Brewton drove by the house after the shooting and was chased into Greenville County, where he wrecked and was arrested.
Brewton testified he was high on heroin and methamphetamine in the days before the shooting.
