GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A 21-year-old Mississippi woman accused in a friend's death and convicted of felony DUI will serve 13 years in prison.

Local news outlets reported on Monday that Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Kaleigh Dartez to 25 years in prison with 12 suspended. Dartez was the driver in a November 2014 crash that killed fellow Long Beach resident 21-year-old Zack Whitfield.

Harrison County sheriff's deputies had found Dartez wandering along a road before locating her car and Whitfield's body nearby.

WXXV-TV reported officials proved Dartez's car crossed into the opposite lane before flipping.

The Sun Herald reported Dartez spoke during sentencing and apologized to Whitfield's family, who'd said that his two children will grow up without their dad.

Dartez must serve a 5-year probation after she's released from prison.
