TOKYO (AP) _ Fifth-seeded Ramesh Krishnan of India beat unseeded Johan Carlsson of Sweden 6-3, 6-1 Sunday to win the men's singles title at the $195,000 Japan and Asian Open tennis tournament.

Krishnan, who won $20,000, got off to a shaky start but recovered with fine net play and accurate ground strokes to dominate the rest of the first set. He took the first four games in the second set with Carlsson's shots often long.

''It was my rare experience to play in the finals and I am very pleased to win,'' Krishnan said afterward. ''Carlsson played a steady game at the start so I forced him to rush to the net, which produced good results.''

Helen Kelesi of Canada won the women's singles title Saturday, beating Bettina Fulco of Argentina 6-2, 6-2.
