MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ The Minnesota Timberwolves signed forward John Thomas on Saturday to a contract for the remainder of the season.

Thomas, a former University of Minnesota standout, has played in 10 games for the Timberwolves this season, averaging 1.7 points and 2.0 rebounds. He was cut in training camp and played for Sioux Falls in the CBA before returning to the Timberwolves.

Thomas had previously signed two 10-day contracts with Minnesota.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Thomas, who played on the Gophers' 1997 Final Four team, was selected in the first round of that year's draft by the New York Knicks.
