HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) _ Stephanie Guidi scored 23 points and Maine shot a school-record .623 from the floor Monday night as the Black Bears defeated Hofstra 89-59 in a North Atlantic Conference game.

The victory was the fifth straight for Maine (8-3, 1-0), while Hofstra (4-9, 1-6) has now dropped four in a row.

Guidi scored Maine's first eight points as the Black Bears jumped out to a 10-lead 3:15 into the game. Hofstra cut the margin to nine, 18-9, on two Catherine Clancy free throws with 13:53 to go in the half.

The Flying Dutchwomen could get no closer as Maine built up 24-point advantage before taking a 51-32 lead into halftime.

Cindy Biodgett scored 21 points and Sandi Carver a career-high 18 for Maine, while Kate Gordon had 13 points and April Fitzpatrick 10 for the Dutchwomen.
