LOGAN, Utah (AP) _ Ron Lopez passed for 248 yards and kicker Doug Beach added two field goals to give Utah State it first victory of the season, 26-3 over Fullerton State on Saturday.

USU presented a balanced attack on offense and some key plays on defense to improve to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the Big West Conference.

The only scoring by Fullerton State (1-6, 0-3) was a 40-yard field goal by Phil Nevin with 9:14 left in the first quarter. From then on, it was all USU.

Nevin's field goal came after Michael Jones intercepted Lopez and Arthur Davis had a 26-yard run to get the ball within distance.

Beach tied it at 3-3 with a 29-yard field goal with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Fullerton State turned the ball over after a fake field goal and USU drove 71 yards in 10 plays, with Roger Grant scoring on a 3-yard sweep with 10:57 to go in the half.

Then Aggie defensive tackle Joe Jacobs intercepted Chad May on a tipped pass and returned it 15 yards to the Titan 27 to set up the next USU touchdown. Eight plays later, Lopez dived over from one yard out with 2:07 left, as the Aggies took a 16-3 edge at halftime.

Lopez hit Rod Moore for a 63-yard touchdown pass to open the fourth quarter, and Beach finished the scoring with a 39-yard field goal with 4:38 remaining.

Lopez had 248 yards passing on 16 of 26 attempts, with one interception and one touchdown. For the Titans, May was 15 of 28 for 128 yards.

Grant led all rushers with 114 yards on 25 carries. Moore had three catches for 94 yards and Tracey Jenkins caught six passes for 96 yards.
