Aug. 30, 2017
PHOENIX (AP) — It was designed to target and arrest felons on the run, and authorities in the Phoenix metro area say Operation Purge was a success.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and other Phoenix-area police departments made 130 arrests of violent criminals and cleared another 355 felony warrants in July and August as part of the operation.
Targeted individuals were wanted for homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault, robbery and burglary.
County sheriff officials say its Fugitive Apprehension Team took 14 felons into custody.
Many of those now in jail had been arrested previously, were released on bond and failed to appear for court hearings.
