WESTON, Fla. (AP) _ Dan Marino, the NFL's most prolific passer, failed in his bid to qualify for the U.S. Open on Monday.
Marino shot a 6-over-par 78 at Weston Hills Country Club and missed qualifying by eight strokes.
The 39-year-old Marino retired from football following the 1999 season.
The former Miami Dolphins quarterback was one of 8,340 entrants trying to qualify for this year's field. Less than 100 will earn berths in the Open at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., June 14-17.
