BOWIE, Md. (AP) _ Salvage Consultant took the lead from the start and sped to a one-length victory over Amanti in the 46th running of the $33,300 Southern Maryland Handicap at Bowie Race Course Saturday.
The track's leading jockey, Alberto Delgado, rode the Maryland-bred 5-year- old gelding over the six-furlong distance in 1:09 1-5. Amanti, the only mare in the field of eight sprinters, finished two lengths ahead of New York invader Muskkoka Wyck.
Salvage Consultant earned a top prize of $21,645 for owner Gilbert Hahn of Washington, D.C. As a third choice, he paid $10, $5.20 and $3.60.
Amanti returned $3.80 and $2.80 and Muskoka Wyck $3.20.
