LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) — Heavily favored Tiz Midnight won the $200,250 Bayakoa Stakes by a head Saturday for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Tiz Midnight ran 1 1/16 miles in a track record 1:42.62, bettering the old mark of 1:41.84 set by Legacy, who finished third Saturday, in the Cypress Stakes on July 6. She returned $3.60, $2.60 and $2.20 as the 4-5 favorite.

Warren's Veneda returned $6.60 and $4.60, while 14-1 shot Legacy paid $4.60 to show, finishing another 4¼ lengths back.

The victory, worth $120,000, increased Tiz Midnight's career earnings to $334,720, with four wins in nine starts. It was the richest and biggest victory of her career. She finished sixth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita — her only out of the money finish.

Espinoza is 4-for-6 when riding Tiz Midnight.
