Former Indian IOC member Ashwini Kumar dies at 94

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Ashwini Kumar, an Indian who served as a member of the International Olympic Committee for 27 years, has died. He was 94.
Kumar's death was announced by the IOC. No cause was given.
Kumar joined the IOC in 1973 and served until 2000, when he became an honorary member.
Kumar served as an IOC vice president from 1983-87 and was a member of the executive board from 1980-87 and 1992-96.
A long-serving member of India's police force, Kumar was president of the Indian Hockey Federation for 16 years and vice president of the International Hockey Federation for more than 15 years.
"Ashwini Kumar had a real passion for sport and spent his whole career promoting its values at the highest level of Indian sports administration," IOC President Thomas Bach said.
