Clinton Mourns Blue Angels' Death
Oct. 28, 1999
WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Clinton called Thursday's deadly crash of a jet from the Navy's Blue Angels precision flying team ``a loss that we all share.''
The crash, during a training flight in south Georgia, killed two of the ``bravest and most distinguished'' aviators in the Navy, the president said.
``As a nation, we all owe our military service members a tremendous debt of gratitude,'' Clinton said. ``At this time of great loss _ a loss that we all share _ my heartfelt prayers go to their families, their shipmates and to the entire Navy.''
The F/A-18 Hornet went down around midday on a farm near Moody Air Force Base in southernmost Georgia, plowing into a stand of pines. The Blue Angels were scheduled to perform at the base this weekend.
