EL PASO, Texas (AP) _ George Banks scored 18 points and Phil Crocker came off the bench to score 12 points and spark a Texas-El Paso comeback as the Miners downed Utah 65-61 Saturday night.
The victory pulled the Miners (14-6, 8-3 Western Athletic Conference) into a tie for first place in the conference with Utah (17-5, 8-3) and Wyoming, which beat Air Force, 70-55, on Saturday. UTEP has won all six WAC games played in El Paso.
The Miners never led in the first half and were behind, 35-32, at the half. They started their comeback with 13:50 remaining as Crocker hit a 3-pointer giving UTEP first lead, 41-39.
The Utes came back to take the lead two more times, 47-45 at 11:20 and 51-50 at 6:53. But UTEP went on a 12-4 run, and the Utes couldn't catch up.
Mark Rydalch led Utah with 17 points, and Alex Jansen added 12. Antoine came into the game averaging 21.7 for Utah, but finished with only 9. Keith Van Horn, averaging 23 for UTEP, also finished with 9.
