Three Dead, 25 Missing as Bus Falls After Bridge Collapses
Jan. 18, 1995
CALAPAN, Philippines (AP) _ A bridge collapsed today southwest of Manila, sending a minibus plunging into 40 feet into a river and killing three people, police said.
Nine people were injured and 25 others were missing after the accident on the outskirts of Calapan town on Mindoro Island, about 80 miles southwest of Manila, said police investigator Arnel Espiritu.
Ten other people, including the driver, were rescued.
Espiritu said the bus was rushing to the Calapan port to catch the mid-morning ferry to nearby Batangas port when the bridge collapsed.
The bridge was damaged by an earthquake in November.
