GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks authorities say police shot and killed a person who was armed and refused to obey commands by officers.

A release by Grand Forks police says the incident happened at 3:17 a.m. Sunday after officers responded to a report of a suicidal subject with a gun. Officers encountered two people at the location, one of whom was armed.

The release says two officers fired "in response to a perceived threat."

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, as required by department policy. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.
