DEER PARK, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say an eastern Washington deputy shot and killed a man who pulled a gun.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office says the shooting occurred at about 4 p.m. Friday north of Deer Park.

The sheriff's office says the deputy responded to a report of a possible suicidal male at a single-vehicle crash.

The sheriff's office says the deputy located the man and attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the man pulled a gun from his waistband and raised it toward the deputy.

The sheriff's office says the deputy fired and struck the man, then called for medical help and started life-saving measures.

But the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn't been released.
