CLINTON, Ill. (AP) — A federal judge has sentenced a central Illinois woman to three years in prison for stealing more than $370,000 from the physician who employed her.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports 48-year-old Veronica Luster of Clinton was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to two charges accusing her of stealing from Dr. Farrukh Kureishy when she was business manager of Clinton Internal Medicine. Remaining charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Luster must pay restitution and serve six months of home confinement when she is released.
Luster apologized, telling the judge she was "truly sorry for the damage my actions have caused." She said the theft may have been related to her use of opiates for chronic pain.
The doctor's accountant noticed irregularities when trying to access tax records in March 2014.
