BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ Alisha Jones of Louisiana State scored 19 points and hauled down seven rebounds Monday to help the South outlast the North 78-73 in women's basketball at the sixth National Sports Festival.

The victory left the South 2-1 in the four-team, robin-robin tournament, while the North fell to 0-3.

With Jones, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, getting 10 points, the South built a lead of as much as 13 in the first half, but the North came back to trail only 42-39 at halftime.

The North closed the gap several times in the second half, but was never in the lead.

Mae Ola Bolton added 11 points and Barbara Bootz and C.J Jones nine each for the winners.

''We were inconsistent at times, but got the big plays when we had to,'' said South Coach Cindy Scott of Southern Illinois. ''Alisha had a fine game for us inside, and that was a big factor.''

Jessica Haynes and Maurtice Ivy led the North with 12 points each and Franthea Price, a high school senior from River Rouge, Mich., added 10.
