Nov. 01, 2000
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Portland Trail Blazers forward Scottie Pippen sprained his left ankle during the first quarter of Tuesday night's 96-86 season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Pippen said he stepped on an official's foot at the baseline and rolled his ankle.
``It's pretty sore right now,'' he said. ``Hopefully, tomorrow it will feel better. I'll see how it feels in practice.''
Pippen began wincing and limping slightly with 8:06 left in the first quarter. He stayed in the game but went to the locker room with 5:02 left in the period. He didn't return.
``It's pretty frustrating,'' he said. ``I was all up for the game.''
Pippen, who has been bothered by a sore right thumb, did not attempt a shot and was held scoreless. He had two rebounds and one assist.
