DENVER (AP) _ Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Terms of the agreement were not released.

Helton, 24, was Colorado's No. 1 selection in the June 1995 free agent draft. He worked his way up through the Rockies' minor league system until being added to the major league club's roster on Aug. 1.

Helton appeared in 35 games for the Rockies and hit .280 with five homers and 11 RBIs. Before joining the Rockies, the left-handed hitter was a Pacific Coast League all-star at Colorado Springs, where he hit .352 with 16 homers and 88 RBIs in 99 games.

The Rockies now have four players who have not signed for the 1998 season. They are pitchers Roger Bailey and Jamey Wright, infielder Neifi Perez and outfielder Angel Echevarria.
