Bush Vows to Strike Back
Sep. 14, 2001
WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Bush toured the devastated site of the World Trade Center Friday, ground zero in the worst terrorist attack on American soil, and told an army of cheering search and rescue workers, ``The people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.''
``USA USA USA'' came back the cheers.
The visit to New York amid wartime-style security came hours after Bush approved the call-up of 50,000 reservists and Congress voted a $40 billion down payment to begin the rebuilding _ and set the stage for the worldwide war on terrorism the president has pledged.
