Cases dropped after officer charged with falsifying reports
Jul. 27, 2017
CLERMONT, Fla. (AP) — A Florida police officer's arrest on charges of falsifying reports has led prosecutors to drop 10 cases.
Local news outlets report that Clermont Police Officer Cecil Garrett was arrested Wednesday.
Assistant State Attorney Walter Forgie told the Orlando Sentinel that Garrett had shown a pattern of pulling over drivers without cause.
Garrett was fired from the Clermont Police Department in 2011 after an internal investigation accused him of falsely arresting a teenager on a drug charge. But the department rehired him two years later, after an arbitrator determined the police agency didn't conduct a fair investigation.
Clermont is an Orlando suburb.
